Constructivism And Beyond

A constructivist believe that the children are the source of knowledge. It's true and I can attest to that.

For instance, your child wants to learn how to use iPad. You can show the instructions step-by-step. That way, your child can learn gradually the usage of the iPad. It's called scaffolding. It's one of the most effective way to teach a child to learn things that are complicated. Through gradual process, the child can learn from it and later on, the child can do it by itself.

It's one of the most rewarding experience as a teacher since the child improves in the craft that they like. You can't just teach them immediately without instructions. It's hard for them to do it by themselves since they have no knowledge with that thing. You have to show them how to do it. It's actually easy if you yourself knows how to work on that thing.

Little by little, they can get ideas on how to work on it. They can even discover something that you can learn too! You can also learn each other through it. It's important since you share knowledge with that person you're teaching and it can be a fruitful experience.

For example, there are programs that are hard to understand, show them how to do it. As much as possible, explain everything so that they can understand. By demonstrating the procedures, they can learn from it and later on, do it by themselves. It's not hard as long as you show it to them one-by-one. Entertain their questions for them to get the answer they desire to hear. If they say that they can do it all alone, just let them do it alone.


Constructivism after all teaches us to be independent. But for us to experience it, we should know them by those who are better than us so that they can teach us little by little on how to do things that we can do it alone later on. I believe that I am a constructivist since I know that they have the answer to the question and I also teach them the procedures gradually until they can do it by themselves.
